We were regular visitors to France for around 12 years and when the opportunity came for us to take early retirement we decided to take the plunge and move to the country that we had come to love!

It had long been our ambition to find a perfect house and run a B&B. In early 2001 we were very lucky to find La Tranchardière, a pair of farm cottages that had been used for many years as a holiday home by a French family. The house had been partly restored and by the beginning of 2004 we had eventually completed the restoration bringing it up to the 21st century retaining its original charm.

Our families, children, grandchildren, and friends in the UK approved wholeheartedly with our plans and have since been regular visitors.

We enjoy meeting and catering for new people and like to introduce them to our tranquil piece of paradise in this beautiful and unspoiled part of France.

Jeff has over the past couple of years created a super garden supplying us with vegetables all year round. I am now improving on my culinary skills, and have discovered the joys of making jams, marmalades, chutneys and pickles, something I just did not have time for in the UK.

Jeff caught this lovely 13lb common carp one evening on the river with a single grain of sweetcorn

Our son-in-law, Kevin, with his first ever Zander - a fish popular with the locals.

After a good long lunch, the "boys" went for a row along the river
