We were regular visitors to France for many years and when the opportunity came for us to take early retirement we decided to take the plunge and move to the country that we had come to love!

It had long been our dream to find a perfect house and run a B&B. In early 2001 we were very lucky to find La Tranchardière, a pair of 18th century farm cottages that had been used for many years as a holiday home by a French family. The house had been partly restored and by the beginning of 2004 we had eventually completed the restoration bringing it up to the 21st century retaining its original charm.

In 2006 our youngest daughter Kathy and her partner Ian and daughter Charlotte joined us. Kathy and family came to help out and eventually run our business as  Jeff and I were due for retirement. In 2008, to everyone’s delight, baby Georges arrived in April bringing a new dimension to our lives.

We enjoy meeting and catering for new people and like to introduce them to our tranquil piece of paradise in this beautiful and unspoiled part of France and hope that those who come to stay leave us with good memories.

Jeff caught this lovely 13lb common carp one evening on the river with a single grain of sweetcorn

Our son-in-law, Kevin, with his first ever Zander - a fish popular with the locals.

After a good long lunch, the "boys" went for a row along the river
